Free Rose Pruning Demonstration Planned

The UC Riverside Botanic Gardens is hosting the free event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — The University of California, Riverside Botanic Gardens is holding its annual free rose pruning demonstration event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13.

At the event, which will be held in the rose garden, botanic gardens volunteers, master gardeners and local experts will demonstrate how to prune hybrid tea, floribunda, miniature roses and climbers. Door prizes will be awarded to selected attendees.

The event is free, but there is a nominal fee for parking in the botanic gardens lot and overflow parking lot 10. In case of rain on Jan. 13, the demonstration will be postponed to 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20.

An all-volunteer group of rose lovers works to maintain the rose garden for the public’s enjoyment. Anyone interested in taking part in this community service should contact the gardens at 951-784-6962 or ucrbg@ucr.edu.

The botanic gardens cover more than 40 acres and feature nearly 3,000 plant species from around the world. Enjoy beautiful vistas and numerous scenic trails, including gentle pathways graded for wheelchair access. A wide array of blooming plants can be seen year around.
