UC Riverside Reaches Milestones in 2013 Application Pool

33,809 freshmen are part of a pool of more than 40,000 total applicants

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — More than 30,000 potential freshmen were part of a record-breaking 42,178 applications received by the University of California, Riverside during the application period for the 2013-14 academic year.

UCR exceeded the 40,000 mark in total applications and the 30,000 mark in freshmen applications for the first time in school history. The pool of 42,178 was made up of a total of 33,809 freshmen, a 13.2% increase from 2012, and 8,369 transfers, a 8.3% increase from 2012.

“The numbers show that UC Riverside continues to grow as a campus of choice,” said Emily Engelschall, acting director of undergraduate admissions.

Engelschall said she was particularly pleased with the transfer numbers.

“We saw a 6.8% increase in transfer applications from California residents over last year despite the fact that the number of California transfer applications systemwide decreased,” she said. “The transfer population is important to both UC and UCR, and we are pleased that our outreach efforts to this population have resulted in an increase in applications for our campus.”

Systemwide, a record high of 174,767 students applied for admission to the University of California, an overall increase of 8.6% over 2012.
