Application Period for Staff Advisor Now Open
The next staff advisor-designate will assist UCR’s Kathy Barton
The application period for the next staff advisor-designate to the Board of Regents is now open. The position’s term runs July 2013 through June 2015.
The staff advisor program, now in its seventh year, allows for two staff and/or non-Senate academic employees to participate in open sessions of designated committees of the board. The staff advisors bring the voice and perspective of staff and non-Senate academic employees to board deliberations.
The current staff advisors to the regents are Kevin Smith, chief administrative officer for the UCLA Chancellor’s organization, whose two-year term will expire in June; and, Kathy Barton, executive director of strategic initiatives at the School of Medicine, who joined the board in July 2012.
“Being a staff advisor to the regents is a singular opportunity to foster two-way communication between UC’s 130,000 staff and the Regents and leadership in the Office of the President. From a personal standpoint, it is an exciting, challenging and affirming experience. I encourage any staff member interested in gaining first-hand insight into the UC system and interacting directly with its leadership to apply,” said Barton.
All employees are encouraged to learn more about the program at the staff advisor website and through local human resources offices.
Applications will be accepted through March 1.
