Caution advised after ambush of Riverside city police officers
UCPD says no known threat to UCR campus community
RIVERSIDE – Two city of Riverside police officers were ambushed and shot early this morning near Magnolia Street and Arlington Avenue in the city of Riverside.
The suspect is believed to be former Los Angeles Police Department officer Chris Dorner. Dorner posted a manifesto specifically threatening police officers, said John Freese, UCPD assistant chief of police. After the ambush, Dorner fled the area. He is considered armed and dangerous, and his location is not currently known. UCPD is on alert and is assisting the Riverside Police Department, Freese said.
“There is no known threat to the campus community at this time. We ask everyone to remain vigilant until this situation is resolved,” he said. “We will update the community as soon as there is significant new information to share.”
