RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — University of California, Riverside students and recent graduates who are interested in a career in the entertainment industry will have the chance to impress television and film professionals when the Entertainment Industry College Outreach Program (EICOP) visits UCR on February 28, 2013.

The program, which runs from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. in HUB 302, is the result of a partnership between the UC Riverside Career Center and longtime entertainment industry veteran Stacy Milner, founder of Executive Temps, Hollywood’s premier employment agency and author of Leveraging UP! The Key to Launching Your Entertainment Career.

“We are thrilled to bring Stacy Milner to UCR and to give our students the opportunity to meet and talk with entertainment industry leaders,” UCR Career Center Director Sean Gil said. “If they are interested in a career in entertainment, this will be the place to be.”

“Through EICOP, we have been able to reach out to students at Historical Black Colleges and Hispanic Serving Institutions like UC Riverside, to provide them with the opportunity to explore a career in the entertainment industry,” Milner said. “We are proud to have major studios and networks as our partners in this program.”

“The program is open to any student who is interested in a career in the entertainment industry. From the production side to the administrative side, there are many opportunities,” she added.

The schedule for students starts at 2 p.m. with a workshop by Milner titled “Leveraging Up,” which helps aspiring professionals build a resume that will impress a potential employer as well as interview skills. At 3 p.m. there will be an Industry Expert Panel Discussion with a question and answer session for students. Then from 4 to 6 p.m. there will be a career fair and recruitment session where organizations will be actively recruiting for internships and entry-level positions. Among the organizations scheduled to attend are DreamWorks Animation SKG, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, CBS Entertainment, and Home Box Office (HBO).

Gil said that in addition to meeting industry leaders, students will also have the chance to get up close and personal with an actual Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

“It’s a unique opportunity to hold and get a photo with an Emmy,” he said.

A special faculty reception will be held at 11:30 a.m., providing faculty with the opportunity to network with industry executives, discuss the coursework and skills that students need to succeed in the entertainment industry, and learn about the academy’s five-day faculty seminar.

“The reception will give our faculty the chance to meet and chat with industry leaders and learn what they can do to help young people get into the careers they desire,” Gil said.

Milner is a 17-year veteran of the entertainment industry who has worked as an assistant to NBC chairmen Brandon Tartikoff and Warren Littlefield, General Electric Chairman Robert Wright and Paramount Pictures TV Group Chairman Kerry McCluggage. After leaving Paramount, she and her husband founded Executive Temps, the premier employment agency to the industry. She spends her time sourcing top talent and training hopefuls about how to break into the entertainment industry.
