Semana de la Mujer Art Exhibit to Feature Work by Chicana/Latina Artists
Exhibit runs throughout the month of March
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — A month-long exhibit at the Division 9 Gallery in downtown Riverside will highlight the works of Chicana and Latina artists from the Inland Empire as part of the celebration of Women’s History Month and Semana de la Mujer at the University of California, Riverside.
The Semana de la Mujer Art Exhibit is sponsored by the Office of Chicano Student Programs in partnership with Division 9 Gallery, located at 3858 Lemon Street in Riverside. The exhibit runs from March 1 through 29, with the public opening scheduled for Thursday, March 7 during the regular Riverside Arts Walk and a grand opening reception scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2013 from 6-9 p.m.
“We would like to capture and highlight ‘HERstory’ through art,” explained Estella Acuna, director of Chicano Student Programs at UCR.
The show will feature work that is about identity, politics, history and beyond and will feature a variety of artistic mediums, including sculpture, photography, paintings and drawings. Featured artists include Cassandra Alfaro, Alexandra Cruz, Cynthia Chavez, Karolina Flores, Victoria Garza, Alejandra Gomar, Olivia Gonzalez, Veronica Ortega Hernandez, Cynthia Huerta, Flor Montes, Cynthia Morales, Hazel Morales, Marcela Ramirez, Judith F. Romero, and Alexandria Sellers.
