RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — An alumnus of the University of California, Riverside School of Business Administration who owns a seafood distribution company has agreed to give the school $25,000 for student scholarships.

Chris Lam, owner of Hayward-based Pucci Foods, a distributor and wholesaler of sustainable seafood and specialty foods, created the Y. Van Lam Endowed Scholarship Fund in honor of his father.

“I created this endowment to give back to the community and institution which positively influenced my career and life,” said Lam, who graduated from UC Riverside in 1991.

The scholarships will be used to recruit and retain business students who demonstrate excellent scholarly work, leadership and commitment to civic duty and cultural understanding. The funds will be distributed by a faculty committee appointed by the dean of the business school.

Yunzeng Wang, interim dean of the business school, applauded Lam for his gift.

“Chris Lam’s success story has been one of our points of pride at the UCR business school, Wang said. “He is a successful business leader and alumnus who has given so much back to his school through the years. We are truly grateful to him for this generous scholarship, which will foster future leaders following in his footsteps.”
