RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — University of California, Riverside Chancellor Timothy P. White visited the European Particle Physics Laboratory (CERN) on Friday, March 16, meeting with UCR researchers and touring the revolutionary facility near Geneva, Switzerland.
During the six-hour visit White toured the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Superconducting Magnet Test Hall and the LHC Computer Center and met for two hours with UC Riverside Distinguished Professor of Physics Gail Hanson and her team. White also met with CERN Director General Rolf-Dieter Heuer, CERN Physicist Gijs de Rijk, LHC Beams Department Head Paul Collier, and Professor Joe Incandela of UC Santa Barbara.
Earlier in the week White was a keynote speaker at the British Council’s “Going Global 2012” conference on Internationalizing Higher Education in London, made up of about 1,500 participants from around the world. He presented on the UCR experience and how the campus enables students from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds to come together and learn from and with each other and to successfully meet the UC standard for a degree.
