RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — A camera system on wheels called the Trike made the rounds at the University of California, Riverside on June 20 and 21 mapping the sidewalks and pathways of the campus for future publication in the Street View feature of Google Maps. College campuses are among the institutions with the most to gain from participation in the Street View program, as it makes it easy for prospective students to “walk” the campus.
Results will not be visible on Google for several months. The company uses face-blurring technology to make faces and license plates less visible. UC Riverside joins a growing list of universities, amusement parks, museums and other spots allowing Google to map the campus.
