RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — The replacement of a small portion of the campus’ heating and cooling system will force the intermittent closure of South Campus Drive near A. Gary Anderson Hall from Monday, August 13 through Friday, August 24.
Crews will be replacing a steam condensate return line that runs from the rear of Anderson Hall, across South Campus Drive and into Parking Lot 8 near the Greenhouses. The project will involve digging a four-foot trench and working around established utility lines.
“This project is just part of the regular maintenance for our campus steam system,” said Larry Alms, Physical Plant contracts superintendent who is overseeing the project.
When the road is closed, traffic will be detoured along Citrus Drive and Eucalyptus Drive. All buildings and parking lots will be accessible during the construction period.
The condensate return line is part of the campus’ steam system and returns water to the central plant to be reused. The steam system provides heat and helps regulate the campus’ air conditioning systems.
