Clearing the Air, MLK Jr. Day and the Tim Hays tribute wall were all causes for celebration at UCR

Happy new 2014! While celebrating an unusually warm January, UCR welcomed many new events and changes to campus.

On Jan. 2, UCR became smoke- and tobacco-free. We celebrated MLK day with civil rights pioneer Carlotta Walls LaNier, the youngest member of the “The Little Rock Nine.”

We graciously accepted the donation of the Tim Hays “tribute wall” which honors the legacy of Tim Hays and the Press-Enterprise in Riverside. The display showcases the paper’s Pulitzer and Supreme Court victories.

We also celebrate Chef Robert Grider, senior food service manager of UCR’s dining services, who was named Chef of the Year a local chapter of the American Culinary Federation.
