RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox and his wife, Diane Del Buono, paid a visit to Batchelor Hall this morning, where, along with about 60 faculty, staff and students, they participated in avocado tasting — a monthly event held in the building’s lobby.

Aimed at identifying the most popular avocado varieties, the tastings are arranged by a team led by Mary Lu Arpaia, an avocado expert and cooperative extension subtropical horticulturalist in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences. Results of today’s tasting will be known in a few days.

Also in attendance today were Michael Pazzani, the vice chancellor for research and economic development, and officials from the California Avocado Commission.

Here are some photos of this morning’s event.  The next avocado tasting will take place at 10 a.m., March 13, in the lobby of Batchelor Hall (after that, April 17, May 21, June 11 — all at 10 a.m.).  The tasting events, which have been going on for about two years, are free and open to the public.
