Sarita Echavez See, associate professor of media and cultural studies, has won a 2014 AVA Digital Award for her website of the Center for Art + Thought (CA + T).

The website is a Web-based nonprofit founded by See and was developed with New York-based Behavior Design. It was one of 2,100 entries in the international competition that recognizes outstanding achievement in the concept, direction, design, and production of digital media. The awards are sponsored and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

“CA+T harnesses the potential of digital and new media technologies in a way that fosters dialog between Filipino artists, scholars and the broader public,” See explained. “We examine Filipinos’ experiences to learn about the rest of the world,” she wrote in the organization’s annual report. “As a site where colonialism and neocolonialism, militarization, migration, and globalization all come together, the Philippines and its diaspora exemplify the global dynamics and processes of the last five centuries. CA+T thus takes the Philippines and Filipinos around the world as a point of departure—rather than a point of arrival—for bringing into focus and understanding other histories, spaces, and communities.”
