RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — UC Riverside’s 14th Annual César E. Chávez 5K Run/Walk was created to celebrate the legacy of César E. Chávez and raise critically needed funds for student scholarships at UCR.

This year’s event is set for 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4 starting at the UCR belltower.  It honors Chávez, a labor leader and Latino civil rights activist who helped found the United Farm Workers (UFW).

“We are asking people to recruit your friends and family, and set a fundraising goal,” said Estella Acuña, director of the Chicano Student Programs. There is a 5k Run/Walk that starts at 8:30 a.m. as well as a kids’ run for children ages 12 and under that starts at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $20 per person, or $80 for a team of five people.
