RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) – The NCAA announced that a women’s golfer from the University of California, Riverside, Savannah Vilaubi, received one of 24 at-large bids to the NCAA Regionals. Vilaubi heads to St. George, Utah for competition beginning on May 7.

The team gathered at Heroes Restaurant & Brewery in downtown Riverside on April 27, to watch the NCAA Selection Show on the Golf Network, erupting into cheers when Vilaubi’s name appeared on screen.

“Savannah’s selection to Regionals signals a huge turning point for our program,” said head coach Mary Ritchie. “Not only has she been a scoring leader for our team but an incredible role model for our young squad.”

“There is no doubt we have been turning heads this year as a team and to have a player move on to Regionals just demonstrates the direction we are moving as a team. This is awesome for our players to witness; it’ll motivate and inspire them to up their game and come back this Fall ready to go,” Ritchie explained.

Vilaubi recently earned the Big West First Team All-Conference honors after finishing sixth in the Big West Championship. She led the Highlanders this season in scoring average (74.7) over nine tournaments, and finished in the top-10 in five of those outings.

The Downey, California, native shot a career-low 67 in the first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Tournament on October 26, setting a new school record for individual single-round low.

“It’s really exciting to have something like this happen after all the hard work that was put into this season,” said Vilaubi. “It is undoubtedly a tremendous opportunity, and I am looking forward to this experience.”
