Sixth Annual UC Walks Riverside set for May 20

Vice Chancellors Ron Coley, James Sandoval and Maria Anguiano will be leading the UCR walk

The 2014 UC Walks event.

On May 20, between 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., wear your walking shoes to work and join your colleagues in the sixth annual systemwide UC Walks. This year’s event will be held at the UCR outdoor track.

The more laps you walk, the more chances you have to earn prizes.  In addition, participants receive a T-shirt, sunscreen, lip balm, and healthy refreshments. If you miss the walk, you can earn a T-shirt by walking anytime that same day for a minimum of 15 minutes (or approximately 1 mile) and completing a pledge card for the walk.

Organized by UCR’s Wellness Program, Staff Assembly and other campus organizations, UC Walks is a UC Living Well wellness activity. It is open to all faculty, staff and retirees.

In addition to the approximately 30-minute walk, there will be additional activities aimed at promoting an active, healthy lifestyle and encouraging UC faculty, staff and retirees to carve out time in their busy schedules for regular exercise.

This year, Vice Chancellor for Business and Administrative Services Ron Coley will be welcoming the UCR community at the Walk kick off; Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs James Sandoval and Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget Maria Anguiano, along with Interim Director of Athletics Janet Lucas, will be guest leaders.

More than 6,000 people across the system participated in UC Walks last year, collectively covering more than 11,000 miles.
