In March, state representatives announced that UC Riverside, Cal State San Bernardino and the Inland Empire Economic Partnership, in partnership with local school districts, governments, businesses and the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership, were one of five groups that would receive $5 million awards.

On April 27, Thomas Smith, dean of UC Riverside Graduate School of Education, Tomas Morales, president of Cal State San Bernardino, Rachel Weiss, director of research of sponsored programs at Cal State San Bernardino and Paul Granillo, president of the Inland Empire Economic Partnership, were in Sacramento to attend an awards reception. Smith will serve as UC Riverside’s liaison on the grant.

With the funding, the Inland Empire group aims to align educational policy and initiatives between Riverside and San Bernardino counties to both improve college outcomes and keep those college graduates employed in the Inland Empire.
