Annual Primavera in the Gardens Fundraiser Set for Sunday, May 17

17th annual wine, food and beer tasting fundraiser will benefit UCR Botanic Gardens' education program for school children

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Friends of the UC Riverside Botanic Gardens will host the 17th Annual Primavera in the Gardens wine and food tasting fundraising event on Sunday, May 17th from 2 to 5 p.m. at the UCR Botanic Gardens.

Guests will be able to stroll through the scenic garden paths, enjoy refreshing and creative appetizers, drink locally-brewed beer and wine and listen to live music.

Appetizers will be provided by restaurants and caterers, including: Café Sevilla, Goodwin’s Organic Foods and Drinks, Mexicali Bar and Grill, Olivia’s Mexican Restaurant, Brewcakes, Edible Arrangements, Grapow, Magnone Trattoria & Market, Mario’s Place, Marisa’s Italian Deli, Migliore Gourmet Foods, Smokey Canyon BBQ and UCR Dining Services.

Wines will be proffered by regional vineyards and wineries, including: Callaway Vineyards and Winery, Chris Kern’s Forgotten Grapes Wine Club, Canyon Crest Winery, Dark Star Cellars, Falkner Temecula Wineries, Galleano Winery, Hart Family Winery, Maurice Carrie Winery, Oak Mountain Winery and Roadrunner Ridge Winery.

Participating Breweries include BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery, Heroes Restaurant & Brewery, Inland Empire Brewing Company and Wicks Brewing Company.

In addition, there will be a silent auction featuring a variety of different garden related items, including a two night a two night stay at the beautiful Strawberry Creek Inn in Idyllwild.

Nearly 600 people attended in 2014 with a full house expected once again for this year’s event. Tickets to this fund raiser are $65 per person. Tickets can also be purchased online by credit card.

To purchase tickets online by credit card, visit the Botanic Gardens website and follow the “Calendar of Events” link to the Primavera in the Gardens page.  You may also order tickets by sending your check for $65 per ticket made payable to UCR Foundation, PO Box 112, Riverside, CA 92521-112.  Please provide a contact phone number or e-mail address with each order.  For orders received by May 8, tickets will be mailed to you; for orders received after that date, tickets will be held at “will call” at the Gardens entrance. Tickets may also be purchased at the gate on the day of the fundraiser for $75.

Parking is $5. A tram, which will shuttle guests to and from the garden entrance, will be available and free to use.

Half of the proceeds fund the event and the remainder funds the Botanic Gardens’ education program for school children.

The Botanic Gardens cover nearly 40 acres and feature more than 3,000 plant species from around the world. Every year, the gardens host some 50,000 visitors, including school children. Guests enjoy the beautiful vistas and numerous scenic pathways, with some gently graded for wheelchair access.
