On June 1, Victor Olivieri joined UCR as Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Paul D’Anieri’s chief of staff. In this role, Olivieri supervises the provost’s immediate staff, and provides project management support and executive leadership to the office and campus.

Olivieri earned a doctorate in political science from the University of Florida, where his research focus was identity politics and collective identity formation in the European Union. He previously received master’s degrees from the University of Florida and the University of Louisville, and a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University.

Prior to joining UCR, he was an instructor of international relations and Western European politics at the University of Florida and a research fellow at the University of Edinburgh. Before engaging in graduate coursework, Olivieri served as a U.S. Army officer in the Third Infantry Division and the U.S. Army Armor School.

Born and raised in Spain, Olivieri is a first-generation college graduate who has overcome significant barriers to get to where he is today. “I feel honored to have been given this opportunity,” he says, adding that he’s looking forward to becoming a part of the UCR community. “Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and I am in awe of the commitment to higher education that is embodied by the faculty, staff, and administrators of this university.

“I am arriving during a period of unprecedented campus growth and I am excited to assist the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor D’Anieri on the numerous tasks that the office oversees.”
