UC Riverside started the 2015-2016 school year with at least 80 new faculty, well on its way to reaching Chancellor Kim Wilcox’s goal of adding 300 ladder-rank faculty by 2020.

The new hires include 30 new faculty in CNAS, 18 in CHASS, at least 12 since July 1 in the SOM, seven each in SoBA and BCOE, and three each in GSOE and SPP.

Research interests among the new faculty are diverse — a sampling includes the rapid growth of Chinese Christianity, African history, galaxy formation, bumble bees, how consumer beliefs influence their purchases, social conditions as a fundamental cause of disease, representation theory in mathematics, indigenous hip hip music, the evolution of flowering plants and social media marketing.

Returning faculty member Michalis Faloutsos, professor of computer science and engineering, is co-founder of two businesses: programize.com, a product development service, and stopthehacker.com, a web-security start-up sold in 2013.
