Heat Music Festival Set for Saturday, March 3 at UCR

Sixth annual concert to features popular and upcoming artists

The Airborne Toxic Event, Mac Miller and Major Lazer will headline the sixth annual Heat Music Festival at the University of California, Riverside on Saturday, March 3, 2012. The festival is the grand finale of UCR’s annual Homecoming celebration.

“In just five short years since the first concert, Heat has grown to a capacity of 13,000 people with three fully booked stages featuring anything from rock to hip-hop to deejays spinning the top current tracks,” Highlander Union Student Affairs Officer Kent Endsley said, adding that the first concert in 2007 featuring Lupe Fiasco drew 7,000 fans, 4,000 more than anticipated.

The festival is presented by the UCR Highlander Union, with the majority of work behind the scenes being done by a hardworking group of students and staff. Additional support comes from an array of UC Riverside departments, and music, production and event industry partners.

Heat has a capacity of 13,000, with 10,000 of the tickets being made available exclusively to UCR students. The general public is invited, but limited to just 2,500 tickets priced at $42.50. Tickets may be purchased at the Heat website.

Parking lots open at 6 p.m., and there is an event parking fee of $5 for vehicles without a UCR parking permit. Festival gates open at 7 p.m. The show begins at 8 p.m. and will end promptly at 12 midnight.

The festival’s three stages are held near the Bell Tower and the Highlander Union Building (HUB). A beer garden and a variety of local food vendors and trucks will complete the venue.
