All UC Employees Must Take a Cyber Security Course by Jan. 31, 2016

UC launching a comprehensive training program to significantly reduce the risk of cyber attacks

Cyber security training is everyone’s responsibility

The University of California is requiring a cyber security awareness training for all UC staff, faculty and others who use UC computers or applications, as part of an effort to address increasing threats to the security of UC information systems and data.

Studies have shown that a substantial number of cyber-attacks involve the unintended actions of users of information systems, and this risk can be significantly lowered through an effective training program, said Ron Christie, manager of HR training and organizational development at UCR.

All employees on payroll with active status, regardless of previous training taken, are required to complete the Cyber Security Awareness Training course once a year. Staff who do not use campus systems but use electronic systems at home are encouraged to take the training even though it is not required.

The new course is available online via the UC Learning Center and must be completed by all members of the UCR community who use computers by Jan. 31, 2016, or within 6 weeks for any subsequent new hires.

The Cyber Security Awareness Training course is video based and takes approximately 50 minutes to complete. You may take the course in more than one sitting. A bookmark function remembers the modules you completed. Each module focuses on a specific security topic and concludes with three questions to test comprehension.
