‘Infidels or Brothers?’ European Muslims in the Pre-Modern Era

Brian A. Catlos, an award-winning historian of medieval Spain and the Islamic and Christian Mediterranean, will discuss “Infidels or Brothers? Integration and Marginalization of European Muslims in the Pre-Modern Era” on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. in CHASS Interdisciplinary 1113.

His lecture is part of the Islamophobia Series of Islam in Europe and Muslim-Christian Encounters presented by the Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies program.

Catlos is professor of religious studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He is the author of several books, including “The Victors and the Vanquished, Christians and Muslims in Catalonia and Aragon, 1050-1300,” which won the Premio del Rey and John E. Fagg prizes from the American Historical Association, and “Muslims of Medieval Latin Christendom, ca. 1050-1614,” which won the prestigious Albert Hourani Book Prize in Middle Eastern Studies.
