RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — The University of California Riverside Department of Physics and Astronomy is planning a free public astrophotography exhibit and is looking for photographers to submit pictures.

The exhibit, planned for some time between June and August, will be held at the Orbach Science Library at UC Riverside. Photo submissions are due by March 31.

Astrophotographs with or without landscape are allowed. Printing costs will be covered by the UC Riverside Physics and Astronomy Department. The exhibition is limited to about 12 images.

Submitting does not guarantee printing and exhibition of the photograph. Pictures need to be 4000 x 3000 pixels in size (or similar), so they can be printed at a large size. A complete description of picture is needed, including the name of photographer, ISO, exposure time, date, place, celestial object and instruments used. The pictures must not contain watermarks or signatures of any kind and be free of copyright to allow exhibition.

The Physics and Astronomy Department does not hold any rights to the pictures. The printed images might tour Riverside and surrounding counties if the exhibition is offered on loan to surrounding schools, colleges and public libraries. The printed exhibition remains the property of the UC Riverside Physics and Astronomy Department for educational and non-profit use only.

Questions about photo exhibit can be directed to Mario De Leo-Winkler, a postdoctoral researcher in astrophysics who specializes in public outreach and education of science at the Physics and Astronomy Department at UC Riverside, at mariodlw@ucr.edu or 951-255-9706.

An online submission form is available here: http://astro.ucr.edu/photosubmit/.

This exhibition is made possible by: the National Science Foundation grant awarded to Gillian Wilson, a UC Riverside professor in the Physics and Astronomy Department, UC Riverside; the FIELDS Program headed by Bahram Mobasher, a UC Riverside professor in the Physics and Astronomy Department; the UC Riverside Physics and Astronomy Department; and Orbach Science Library at UC Riverside.
