UCR Center for Environmental Research and Technology to Hold Open House

Community event to showcase research activities that will help secure California’s sustainable future

Research at the UCR CE-CERT Mobile Emissions Laboratory

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) — The Bourns College of Engineering Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) will host an open house this Wednesday (May 11) from 3-5 p.m. Community members are invited to learn more about research at the center, tour the facilities, and meet with faculty, staff and students.

CE-CERT research focuses on developing innovative solutions to help reduce pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions, diversify energy supplies, and move towards more efficient and cleaner transportation systems—all of which will help secure California’s sustainable future.

The research on display will include a variety of initiatives, including:

  • Renewable Natural Gas Research Center
  • Aqueous processing fermentation for alternative fuels
  • Sustainable freight
  • Emissions, air quality and the climate change interaction
  • California Air Resources Board move to UCR
  • Sustainable Integrated Grid Initiative that will integrate solar energy, battery storage and electric and hybrid vehicles
  • UC global climate change efforts

The free event will be held at the CE-CERT laboratories, 1084 Columbia Avenue, Riverside, CA 95207. Free parking is available on site.

In 1992, the Bourns College of Engineering established the Center for Environmental Research & Technology (CE-CERT) as a model for partnerships among industry, government, and academia. CE-CERT’s goals were to become a recognized leader in environmental education, a collaborator with industry and government to improve the technical basis for regulations and policy, a creative source of new technology, and a contributor to a better understanding of the environment.
