For an entire week, the Student Rec Center will be available – free of charge – to the UCR community. The center offers group exercise classes, a pool, a climbing area (known as The Rock), basketball and tennis courts.

The center will be available from June 20-26; users must be eligible for SRC membership (student, staff, faculty or alumni), and an active membership is not required.

UC Riverside Receives an ‘A-plus’ on the Tobacco-Free Policy Report Card

UC Riverside earned an A-plus in a survey of California colleges making an effort to be smoke and tobacco free.

In the June 2016 edition of the California Public College and University Smoke/Tobacco-Free Policy Report Card, published by the California Youth Advocacy Network, UCR, as well as the other nine UC campuses, received an A-plus for providing a smoke-free environment. This includes the prohibition of e-cigarettes.

Through UCR’s Wellness Program, employees and students who want to quit smoking are offered free counseling and nicotine replacement therapy.

Academic Senate Election Results Are Available

UCR’s Academic Senate has this year’s election results posted on their website.

As of September 1, Dylan Rodriguez will serve as chair and John Cioffi will serve as vice chair.

Rodriguez will take the 2-year term position currently held by Jose Wudka, who has chaired the Academic Senate for two terms.

Screening: ‘The Last Man on the Moon’

UCR ARTSblock will be screening “The Last Man on the Moon” on June 24 and June 25 at the Culver Center of the Arts.

Admission is $9.99 for screenings programmed from 7-9 p.m. on June 24; 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on June 25.

“The Last Man on the Moon,” is a documentary directed by Mark Craig. It narrates the story of Eugene Cernan, a NASA astronaut who participated in three spaceflights between 1966 and 1972.

R’Garden Fundraiser

UCR’s R’Garden will be hosting a fundraising dinner party on Saturday, June 25, from 4-8p.m. The pre fixe dinner menu will feature

Tickets run $30 for a meat (salmon, chicken or beef) or $25 for vegetarian (chickpea and squash tagine, linguine with ratatouille or kale empanadas). The meal also includes sweet tea or lemonade, french bread, green salad (from R’Garden) and freshly baked cookies or fruit (from R’Garden and local farmers).

Produce Directly From The Farm To Your Table

UCR’s Wellness Program is partnering with Dinning Services to offer staff and faculty the FarmShare program.

This is a  12-week produce program where participants receive produce directly from local farms.

FarmShare is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, which leads efforts to deliver fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs to local businesses, including UCR.

Cost: A full share costs $28/week; a medium share costs $18/week. Several purchase options are available, including a two-week trial subscription.

Bookstore Open During Remodeling

The Bookstore has been under a remodeling phase since early May, but it has remained opened.

By the end of the construction the bookstore will be consolidated to the upper level and the lower level will house the Career Center, which will be relocated from the Veitch Student Center.

Construction will generally occur during weekdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, some work may occur after these hours or on weekends reducing impacts of noise or traffic.

Construction is planned to be complete by approximately January 20th, 2017.
