Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox announced that Christine Victorino is the new Associate Chancellor, replacing Cindy Giorgio who retired in July after 35 years of service to the campus. She started her duties Aug. 1.

Victorino has spent 20 years in higher education. For three years she served as Assistant Vice Provost in the UCR Office of Undergraduate Education. She previously held administrative leadership and academic development roles at Pitzer College, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Stanford, and universities in Canada.

She earned her Ph.D. in education at UC Santa Barbara and also holds a master’s degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Toronto and Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. She has delivered peer-reviewed presentations and journal publications on faculty satisfaction, campus climate, student success, and civic engagement.

As chief of staff in the Office of the Chancellor, Victorino will be a principal advisor to university leadership. She will play a key role in developing and executing UCR’s strategic vision and goals as well as managing initiatives and communicating with campus leaders, the Office of the President, and the Board of Regents.

Wilcox said he is grateful for the commitment and service of Cindy Giorgio, and for the work of the search committee, who gave up time during the Spring to complete this hire in a timely fashion. The search committee was chaired by Vice Chancellor Peter Hayashida. It included two faculty members: Ken Baerenklau and Mariam Lam; and two staff members: Kathy Barton and Datasha Hudson.
