Professor Frank Vahid Receives 2016 Innovative Teaching Award

Computer Science and Engineering Professor Frank Vahid

The UCR Academy of Distinguished Teachers has named Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Professor Frank Vahid as the recipient of the 2016 Innovative Teaching Award.

Each year, the Academy accepts nominations from the campus community and recognizes outstanding educators for their progressive teaching methods as well as their demonstration of exceptional passion toward finding new ways to help students learn.

In 2012, Vahid began reinventing college instructional material from scratch for the web. Dr. Vahid and a colleague co-founded zyBooks, aimed at building a new generation of interactive learning material to replace textbooks and homework. Today, zyBooks is available in 15 subjects and are being used at 500 universities and by 50,000 students.

Vahid is the second CSE professor to be honored with the teaching award since it began in 2006.
