ECE Professor Amit Roy-Chowdhury Named IAPR Fellow

ECE Professor Amit Roy Chowdhury

The International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) has elected the organization’s 2016 cohort of Fellows. Among the 28 professionals named to the prestigious honor this year is Electrical and Computer Electrical (ECE) Professor Amit Roy-Chowdhury, who was recognized for his contributions to collaborative sensing and distributed processing in camera networks with applications in tracking, re-identification and activity recognition.

Every other year, IAPR elects members “to acknowledge their distinguished contributions to the field of pattern recognition and to IAPR activities.” Only a small group is designated with the honor. According to the Constitution and Bylaws of IAPR, the number of fellows elected must not exceed 0.25 percent of the total IAPR membership.

Roy-Chowdhury joins another ECE Bourns College of Engineering faculty member, Bir Bhanu, who was named an IAPR Fellow in 2000.
