Donor Appreciation Week: ‘I Love UCR’

Participants will have a chance to win t-shirts, Moo Moo ice cream, gift cards, and more

Did you know that 86 percent of undergraduate students receive financial aid at UCR?

To support them, UCR’s Student Alumni Association is preparing activities for the fifth annual Donor Appreciation Week, scheduled to take place Feb. 14-16. This year’s theme is “I Love UCR.”

Activities include a “Thank-A-Thon,” scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the bell tower. That day, students, as well as staff and faculty members, are welcome to join in by signing thank-you cards that will be mailed to donors. Participants will have a chance to win t-shirts, Moo Moo ice cream, gift cards, and more.

“Over 2,000 postcards will be mailed to donors,” said Maydeli Magaña, program manager of Student Relations for the UCR Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations. The Alumni Association is sponsoring the events, which are being organized by the Student Alumni Association group on campus.

UCR’s Alumni Association has been awarding scholarships for more than 40 years; during the 2015-2016 academic year, $97,000 in scholarships was awarded.

Staff and faculty members can play key roles during Donor Appreciation Week by making a donation, encouraging colleagues to contribute, or signing a thank-you note, Magaña said. Faculty may also support the effort by taking a few moments in each class to explain the impact donors have by funding research and education.

Events for the week to take place at the bell tower, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 14: Face the facts scavenger hunt
  • Wednesday, Feb. 15: Thank-A-Thon
  • Thursday, Feb. 16: Random act of kindness/pay it forward.
