Customer service is the number one priority for John Casey, the new executive director of construction and project management in the Office Research and Economic Development.

“The customer is every college, department, every unit on campus who needs a project completed, such as rehabs or new buildings,” said Casey, a civil engineer who is licensed in multiple states. “My main goal is to get projects to completion for UCR by listening to needs and constructing what is needed.”

Casey holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from UC Davis.  He joined UCR two weeks ago from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and has a distinguished record of accomplishment both in the public and private sectors.

In just the past five years at Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, Casey led teams in the planning and completion of a major university center expansion, a new dining hall, and a new 120,000 square foot life science research building, along with multiple science labs and teaching space renovations.  He also led the campus’ master planning efforts and directed the programming of new athletic weight training facilities, a tennis center, and a softball/baseball complex.

At UCR, Casey wants to keep the momentum going.

“I’m excited. We are going to improve research labs, teaching spaces, and much more. The academic space is all about the promise of what UCR will be,” Casey said. “I am looking forward to working with the campus community and actively listening to them. I want people to know that they’re getting what they expect to get. It’s important to have an open dialogue all the way through.”
