Candace Wiest

Candace Wiest, a banking executive with a reputation for turning failing banks into high performers, will speak at the Fox Performing Arts Center, 3801 Mission Inn Ave., on Thursday, March. 9 as part of UC Riverside’s School of Business Dean’s Speaker Series.

Wiest will share insights from her career path in a male-dominated profession, her role as a community leader, and the latest industry concerns. The event will begin with a networking reception at 5 p.m., followed by the talk at 6 p.m. It is free and open to the community. Please register to attend.

Wiest is the president and CEO of West Valley Bancorp Inc. and West Valley National Bank in Phoenix, Ariz. She was recruited to organize the bank, which opened in December 2006 with $14 million in locally raised start-up capital. Formerly, Wiest was president of Inland Empire National Bank in Riverside.

Wiest’s career path has been unconventional. She took her first banking job in 1986 as a loan clerk, advancing to her first CEO position in 1993. She has served twice as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and she is the first woman to be elected as a Class A director in the bank’s 100-year history.

Wiest has a long history of service and contribution to Riverside and the Inland Empire region.

Her many awards in the region include: the Chairman’s Award from the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce for extraordinary service to education, the City and the Chamber; Cal Baptist Universities Spirit of Excellence Award for Citizenship; the Arrowhead CEO of the Year award from Cal State San Bernardino; and the UC Riverside A. Gary Anderson Management Leader of the Year.
