School of Medicine to Host Open House on April 8

UC Riverside invites community to see what being a medical student involves

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The School of Medicine at the University of California, Riverside will host its annual open house on Saturday, April 8, 2017, from 8 a.m. to noon at the School of Medicine Education Building for community members interested in exploring what it is like to be a UC Riverside medical student.

The event is free and open to the public; RSVPs are requested. Complimentary parking will be available in nearby Lot 13.

The open house will feature two largely identical sets of presentations, the first beginning at 8 a.m. and the second at 10 a.m. The presentations will include advice for parents on preparing their children for success, student panel discussions in both English and Spanish, presentations on medical school admissions, and cutting-edge research demonstrations by current medical students of curriculum and health-related studies.

UCR’s Pipeline Programs, designed to help young people on pathways toward a career in medicine, will feature prominently in the open house. There will also be CPR lessons and medical simulation laboratory sessions for all visitors, as well as a “Kids’ Zone” of interactive activities for young visitors.

Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs Neal Schiller will address visitors at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

“The open house is an excellent opportunity for everyone to see what the UCR School of Medicine is doing to improve the health of the people of inland Southern California,” Schiller said. “Whether you are a prospective medical student, or someone who cares about health care and medical education in the 21st century, the open house will have something for you.”

The first public medical school created in California in more than 40 years, the UCR School of Medicine graduates its first class of students this summer.
