The Engineers’ Council Recognizes Seven BCOE Faculty for Outstanding Achievement

Last month, The Engineers’ Council hosted its 62nd Honors and Awards Banquet, honoring engineers and engineering projects for outstanding achievement. This year, seven faculty from the Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering were recognized:

William Grover, Assistant Professor of Bioengineering
Future Technology Leader Award
For creating hardware and software tools that accelerate the progress of biological and medical research, and developing technologies that support engineering experiences for students in K-12 science classes.

Suveen Mathaudhu, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science and Engineering
Outstanding Engineering Achievement Merit Award
For pushing the structural performance ceiling limits in advanced nano crystalline structural materials through innovative research on novel strengthening mechanisms, and outreach efforts to spread this knowledge to a broader audience.

Mihri Ozkan, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering & Materials Science and Engineering
Distinguished Achievement Award
For exemplary and innovative contributions to sustainability as a researcher, educator, and global ambassador of science and engineering.

Guillermo Aguilar, Chair and Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Distinguished Achievement Award
In recognition of leadership and contribution toward the development of a novel cranial implant: Window to the Brain.

Hyle Park, Associate Professor of Bioengineering
Outstanding Engineering Achievement Merit Award
For significant contributions to the engineering profession’s role in understanding the structure and function of the brain.

Zizhong “Jeffrey” Chen, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering
Outstanding Engineering Achievement Merit Award
For contributions to the development of novel algorithm-based fault tolerance techniques for high performance scientific computing.

The awards banquet, held in Universal City, Calif., is the largest National Engineers Week recognition banquet nationwide. Through the years, The Engineers’ Council has presented thousands of awards recognizing outstanding contributions by individuals in Southern California and throughout the world in the fields of engineering, education, and special fields of work and public service.
