Don’t Forget Your Sneakers, ‘UC Walks’ is on May 17

This annual event is a UC systemwide effort to promote an active lifestyle among the entire campus community

UC Walks at UC Riverside is set for May 17, 2017. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. file

Staff, faculty members, and students are encouraged to bring comfortable walking shoes on May 17 to participate in the 8th annual UC Walks event, set from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The event provides an opportunity to get out of the office or classroom, and join others in fun activities at UC Riverside’s outdoor track. This annual event is a UC systemwide effort to promote an active lifestyle among the entire campus community.

Participants are encouraged to walk for at least 15 minutes (approximately one mile), and are welcome to join the walk at any point during the event. Ron Coley, vice chancellor of Business Administrative Services, will address the participants at noon.

You can register for UC Walks 2017. If you can’t make it, but want to still commit to walking, you can fill out a pledge card to receive a free T-shirt.

In addition to walking around the track, participants will enjoy:

  • A festival-style setting – health and fitness booths
  • Zumba flash mobs and games
  • Healthy refreshments
  • A chance to win raffle prizes every 15 minutes ‒ the more laps you walk, the more chances you have to earn prizes
  • A free T-shirt for the first 400 attendees
  • R’Pantry food drive – donate nonperishable items for extra points
  • Visit with Scotty the Bear and Norm the Navel

All are encouraged to wear UCR gear and colors. At UCR the UC Walks event is sponsored by Workplace Health & Wellness, Recreation, The Well, Wellness Ambassadors, and Staff Assembly.
