The UCR Farmers Market has officially relocated from Glen Mor, to the lawn between the Arts building and Hinderaker Hall.

The weekly market’s schedule will remain the same: every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m.

“With the new location, there will be more foot traffic and visibility,” said Cassie Taan, restaurant systems and support supervisor of Dining Services. Taan is one of three managers working to make the Farmers Market a more enjoyable and accessible event.

Julie Zeno, another Farmers Market manager and Aberdeen-Inverness unit manager of the residential restaurant, said the new location accommodates more than just students, but staff and faculty as well.

“We want the community to know that we’re here,” Taan said.

The Farmers Market debuted at its new location on May 4. On a recent Thursday, students said they found the area to be extremely easy to find.

“I’m a big fan of farmers markets in general… When I came to Southern California I was really disappointed there weren’t any CSA’s here—Community Supported Agricultures—for me to get involved with. And then one day I found out [UCR] had a farmers market on campus and I was just stoked,” said transfer student Hannah Urrego.

“[The Farmers Market is] interesting because I get to know more about the community,” said another UCR student, Estrella Luna.

Farmers Market vendors offer a variety of homegrown vegetables and handcrafted items, from jewelry to essential oils.

The Farmers Market managers expect at least three new vendors to be added in the next month: a jewelry vendor, a falafel stand, and a Native American fry bread stand.

“We’re not looking to make a profit off [vendors],” said Jamie Entrikin, also a Farmers Market manager and the Starbucks unit manager. “This is a campus and community initiative.”
