Wear your UC Riverside pride!

That’s the message Student Life wants to send to staff and faculty as the school year kicks off, encouraging them to wear UCR shirts, pins, hats or departmental T-shirts as a way to show off their tartan soul.

As part of the effort Student Life is bringing back “R’Day” every Wednesday, during which, staff and faculty are encouraged to dress in UCR colors or gear. This fall’s first R’Day is Oct. 4.

“We encourage all staff and faculty to wear ‘R’ gear so that we can then demonstrate to our students how we can celebrate R’Day together,” said Joseph Valencia Martinez, senior coordinator for highlander spirit and traditions within Student Life.

The Barnes & Noble bookstore will have many items on sale during Highlander Welcome, a three-week program full of activities for the campus community. For example, tartan fedora hats will be on sale for $5 every Wednesday, Valencia Martinez said.

An upcoming opportunity for campus departments to showcase their office spirit — and give exposure to the work they do for UCR — is the Tartan Soul Kickoff, a campus resource fair on Oct. 3. Student Life will be giving away T-shirts at the event while supplies last.

Show your tartan pride:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 3: Tartan Soul Kickoff, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., by the bell tower.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 4: First R’Day of the fall; Fall Involvement Fair, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., by the bell tower.
  • Sept. 24- Oct. 12: Highlander Welcome, various activities and discounts at the campus bookstore.
