UC Riverside’s food pantry has a new home.

The R’Pantry has moved into a bigger space and the campus community is invited to attend the open house on Friday, Nov. 17, 2-4 p.m. The new location is at Costo Hall 110.

Visitors can see the new space, meet staff and students, as well as other campus partners who support R’Pantry’s mission to end food insecurity among UCR students.

Is California an Island?

As part of the observance of Geography Awareness Week (Nov. 12-18) and GIS Day, the UCR Library is inviting the campus community to attend a presentation on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 1- 2:20 p.m. in Rivera Library Room 403.

Manuel Urrizola, head of metadata and technical services at the UCR Library, will give a presentation titled, “Is California an Island?”

Antique maps from Urrizola’s personal collection and from Special Collections will be on display as he discusses why California was depicted differently for a time when the New World was still new to Europeans.

Most recently, Urrizola gave this presentation at the Los Angeles Public Library in August.

Light refreshments will be served.

Vice Provost Discusses How To Make an Impact

UC Riverside Vice Provost of International Affairs Kelechi Kalu gave a presentation on how unity can move a country forward, during an Oct. 14 visit at The Goldsmiths’ Centre in London.

His presentation, titled “Wicked Problems: Using Strategic International Collaborations to Solve the World’s Most Pressing Issues,” Kalu stated that coming together as a community is the true way to overcome the major social issues, including climate change, infectious diseases, and population growth.

“We cannot solve problems alone – we need networks, we need collaboration; it is natural to our existence,” Kalu said.
