UC-Mexico Initiative Signs Educational MOU

Through the UC-Mexico Initiative the UC has signed a systemwide Memorandum of Understanding (MUO) with Mexico’s Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN).

The UC-Mexico Initiative was created to sustain a strategic and equal partnership between the UC and institutions in Mexico as well as address common issues and educate the next generation.

The purpose of the MOU is to strengthen the relationship between the two higher educational systems and provide more options for research and student maneuverability. IPN is one of Mexico’s prominent education systems, located in Mexico City with many extensions campuses spanning 22 states.

The UC-IPN collaboration began in October 2017 during IPN’s 10th anniversary of international cooperation. To date, 5,000 students have participated in some form of program in the last six months.

The MOU was signed by UC Riverside Chancellor Kim Wilcox and Enrique Fernández Fassnacht, who is the director general of IPN. As well, the MOU is launching a three-year student mobility program that will allow students to study at either, UCR, UC Davis, or UC San Diego for their spring quarter.
