A reorganization of campus administrative functions coincides with the arrival of new CFO and Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget Gerry Bomotti

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.ucr.edu) – UC Riverside Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox announced the appointment of Gerry Bomotti as Chief Financial Officer and Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget effective Feb. 1, 2018. Bomotti has spent more than three decades in senior executive roles at public universities across the nation.

Bomotti was most recently senior vice president for finance and business at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a position he held since September 2004. In that role, he oversaw budget, planning and construction, real estate, bond and other financing activities, internal audit, accounting, purchasing, human resources, facilities management, and other administrative support functions. He previously held similar roles at Colorado State University; University of Arkansas, Fayetteville; and University of Alaska.

“The breadth and scope of Gerry’s experience puts him in the very top tier of finance executives in American higher education,” said Wilcox. “As we continue to refine our budget model, lead an ambitious physical campus expansion, and manage demands of growing enrollment and an expanding faculty, Gerry is exactly the kind of leader we need overseeing this complex portfolio of responsibilities.”

In prior roles, Bomotti has also managed support services for community colleges, rural education, and extension. He launched his higher education career while an undergraduate working in residential life.

“UC Riverside’s profile is compelling and the stories I’ve heard inspire me,” said Bomotti. “With the campus at a crucial inflection point around size, scope, and reputation, I look forward to helping chart the next era of transformational growth. It was clear to me as I discussed the Chancellor’s vision and met with his leadership team that the future is bright at UCR.”

Bomotti earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Oregon State University and a Master of Arts in mathematics from Washington State University. He completed doctoral-level coursework in higher education administration at the University of Michigan.

The role of CFO and Vice Chancellor is critical to UCR’s long-term success. Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Cynthia K. Larive commented, “I look forward to a strong partnership with Gerry, as we work to achieve a campus profile — and the necessary resources — that are on par with member institutions of the Association of American Universities.”

The CFO and Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget plays a key strategic and leadership role at the university.  As CFO and Vice Chancellor, Bomotti will develop long-range financial, enrollment, asset management, capital, investment, and institutional plans in coordination with UCR’s current and future strategic planning activities. He will advance administrative and organizational efficiencies and identify financial and capital resources to meet the campus’ long-term growth aspirations.
