RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The 17th annual César Chávez 5K Run+Walk is set for Saturday, April 7.

Colleagues, friends, and family members are encouraged to participate in this family-oriented event at the University of California, Riverside. This annual 5K, hosted and directed by Chicano Student Programs, is meant to celebrate the life of the civil rights leader César Chávez. The event also supports student scholarships, said Estella Acuña, director of Chicano Student Programs at UCR.

“We always want people to start conversations about who César Chávez was, what he did, especially the youth,” Acuña said. “We are always really excited about this event, which has become a signature event for the campus.”

The three-mile run, which starts on campus across the Tomás Rivera Library, takes participants on a scenic loop around the university.

Last year’s 5K brought 330 participants, including 40 children for the 1K.

Participation is open to the entire community; runners/walkers can join as individuals or can pull together a team of five people. Guests will enjoy a resource and health fair, vendors, music, and activities such as Zumba and crafts.
