Redesigned UCR.EDU Goes Live: Everything You Need to Know

New gateway Site tells the UCR story in amazing ways

The UCR.EDU gateway site serves as UCR’s digital front door.

Moments ago, UCR flipped the switch on its newest digital asset, and the change goes far beyond curb appeal. The redesigned homepage, which is one of several sites built on the new Drupal content management system rolled out to campus in January 2017, will not only optimize content for display across devices, but quickly guide visitors, particularly prospective students, to the sites and resources they need to effectively engage with our campus.

The new Find People directory is designed to help quickly find and contact other UCR employees and faculty. Site visitors can easily search by name, phone number, department, and group, and the Enterprise Directory will continue to remain accessible. Employees can update photos on their profiles, and faculty can add additional information such as publications, biographies, class hours, and more. To embed these profiles in a current or future website, contact your Site Factory Manager.

These transformational enhancements mean that your UCR website content could change. Even sites that have made the switch to Drupal will need to ensure that links and Enterprise Directory access have been updated.

Visit http://websites.ucr.edu to learn more about how these changes may affect your department, lab, and personal websites. New functionality and design options will continue to roll out, and all campus sites are set to transition by June 30, 2019.

Here’s why UCR.EDU and other Drupal-based websites will better tell the UCR story in today’s complex digital communications landscape:

Why redesign the UCR.EDU site?

The UCR.EDU gateway site serves as UCR’s digital front door, and the new Drupal content management system allows UCR to optimize content for display on mobile devices as well as desktop. Our goal is to quickly guide visitors, particularly prospective students, to the sites and resources they need, while also enhancing public awareness of the extraordinary distinctions of UCR.

Understanding users often navigate to sites and resources through search engines instead of gateway sites, UCR is also working to enhance and optimize content, such as key words and search terms, on all campus websites.

What did the redesign process involve?

The design, functionality, and navigation of UCR.EDU was based on various factors, including a landscape analysis of peer institutions, site analytics and visitation patterns, feedback from campus stakeholders, and a content strategy that emphasizes recruitment of and engagement with key constituencies such as prospective students, campus visitors, faculty recruits, corporate partners, job seekers, and supporters.

Will the UCR.EDU site continue to evolve?

Yes. While the goal is to maintain UCR.EDU as a small, streamlined gateway site that helps users access events and information as quickly as possible, additional multimedia content and enhanced functionality will be added to the site over time.

How do I use the new Find People directory?

Just like the UCR Enterprise Directory, the new Find People directory is designed to help users to quickly find campus employees. Users can easily search by name, phone number, department, and group. Employees can update photos on their profiles, and faculty can add additional information such as publications, biographies, class hours, and more. To embed these profiles in a current or future website, contact your Site Factory Manager.

Find People profiles can be embedded in both Drupal and non-Drupal websites. The UCR Enterprise Directory will continue to be available as well.
